Welcome Messages

Manfred Johannes

All systems go for the 18th World Conference on Non-Destructive Testing (WCNDT) in Durban during April 2012

For the first time in history the World Conference on Non-Destructive Testing will be hosted in Africa.

I would like to provide you with an update as to how the arrangements for the event are proceeding. This really is going to be the event, on the NDT calendar, that cannot be missed!

The facts for the event are as follows:

  1. 120 companies involved in the NDT field, either as equipment or service providers have purchased exhibition space. The exhibition covers a surface area of around 9500 m2, which is approximately the size of a rugby field. In this exhibition the NDT industry is showcasing the state-of-the-art NDT technology to the world. What an opportunity to have such an exhibition in our country; what a privilege to be able to communicate with the major players in the field of NDT on our doorsteps. Please make use of this opportunity by attending the conference.
  2. 5 plenary speakers and 25 overview speakers have accepted the invitation to present the state-of-the-technology to the international NDT community. These lectures will have as a purpose the outlining of the NDT industry in the various technologies. Everyone will learn from these papers.
  3. 520 papers will be read in 8 parallel sessions, or will be presented in the form of posters, which will give the opportunity for one-on-one discussions. Here the industry communicates regarding developments which are on the go. Please make use of this unique opportunity to become aware of the latest developments.
  4. A number of discussion sessions and podium discussions have been scheduled on topics of interest to various sectors in the industry.
  5. The programme has been submitted to SAIMechE for the awarding of CPD points for attendees, who need to gain the points for 2012. Please make this the event to gain at least 3 of the CPD points for 2012.

As one can seen this will be a world class event. Please make use of the opportunity to become conversant in NDT and to be part of this prestigious event. Such an opportunity will not come to South Africa again in our lifetime. All information is available on this website.

President of the 18th WCNDT
President - SAINT

Chair of the 18th WCNDT 2012 Organizing Committee

Mike Farley

NOW is the time to start planning your involvement in the 18th World Conference on NDT in Durban, South Africa 16 -20 April 2012.

The 18th WCNDT will be a “once in a working lifetime opportunity” for many of us to take part in a major NDT event in Africa. The World Conference is organised every four years and moves around the globe with ICNDT members from Europe, Asia-Pacific, Pan America, and Africa bidding for the privilege so arguably Africa’s next turn will not come before 2028.

The conference theme “NDT IN SERVICE OF SOCIETY” reminds us of why our discipline is so important and why we need to share our knowledge, technology and experience for the benefit of all. ICNDT therefore want to do everything possible to maximise the benefits of this opportunity to the whole African NDT community.

ICNDT is planning with the conference organisers a number of ICNDT events to be held during the conference:

  1. Open Session in the conference on IAEA projects in the NDT field
    • to allow IAEA to showcase its work
    • to promote discussion on future projects
  2. Workshop for Regulators designed to inform regulators of the value of NDT and how to ensure its reliable delivery
  3. Workshop on Qualification and Certification of NDT personnel including the proposed ICNDT Multilateral Recognition Agreement
  4. Open Session in the conference on IAEA projects in the NDT field
    • meet “buddy” societies willing to be mentors
    • meet Certification Bodies willing to be partners
    • website shell scheme
  5. ICNDT Research workshop
    • Opportunities to meet researchers from large international laboratories

So NOW is the time to make your plans! See you in Durban !

Yours sincerely,

Mike Farley
Chairman ICNDT
